Driveway Lights

Driveway lights will not add anything extra to your monthly electrical bill because they are low voltage. However, they will illuminate the driveway and accentuate your property, making it look just as good at night as it does during the day. It will also provide you with safety and security as the lights will scare away would be robbers and help those walking along a long driveway after dark feel safe. There are various types of lights you can use and the choices depend on several factors, such as your landscaping and its scope, the purpose for which you want the lighting and your individual preferences.

Uplights are placed at ground level and shine upwards to focus on specific parts of the landscape design, such as trees, shrubs or flowerbeds. They are also called spotlights and you can change the color of the bulbs to suit the season or for special occasions. They can also extend the interior living space to the outside of your home by providing additional lighting outdoors.

Downlights would be placed on higher objects along the driveway and point downwards to light the way to the house or the garage. These lights simulate the look of moonlight and are often used to illuminate walkways leading from the driveway. Pathlights are placed along the edge of the driveway at regular intervals. These are usually low to the ground and the light seems to spread from them. You can also have specialty lights, such as string lights or lights that look like flickering torches.

Most of these lights require a 12- volt electrical connection. However, there are also solar lights that automatically come on at dusk and go off at dawn. If you choose these lights, you will have to store them inside during the winter as they do not hold up well in ice and snow.
